RECIPE: Homemade Ginger-Lemon Tea as seen on CHCH Morning Live

Fresh ginger has always been a staple in my Chinese household. I grew up eating it (skin and everything on steamed fish and in other dishes!), so the strong potency and smell never affected me adversely. If you find fresh grated ginger to be too strong for your taste, try slicing it thinly and placing it into your mug – the flavour will be less intense.

RECIPE: Homemade Ginger-Lemon Tea

makes 1 serving

Ingredients

1 tablespoon fresh grated or sliced ginger
1 cup water
1 tsp honey (or more if desired)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice and lemon slice

Instructions

  1. Grate the ginger. Or slice the ginger thinly. You can use more than 1 tablespoon when sliced due to its more subdued flavour.
  2. Add ginger, lemon juice, lemon slice and honey to a mug. Pour boiled water. Let sit for 10 minutes to steep and enjoy!

Alternatively, if you do not like bits of ginger in your mug, you can steep the grated ginger in a pot and/or pour into the mug with a sieve to catch the ginger bits.
